Purchasing a remanufactured engine or transmission can raise a lot of questions — and we get it. At Gearhead Engines, we want to make sure you’re fully informed before buying. Here are the most common questions we hear, with straightforward answers so you know exactly what to expect. 

❓ What’s Included — Is It a Complete Engine? 

All of our engines ship as a “long block” at a minimum. That includes: 

  • Cylinder head(s) 
  • Valve train 
  • Timing components 
  • Oil pump 
  • Gasket sets for manifolds, oil pan, valve covers, seals, etc.  

Most of our engines also include oil pan, timing cover, and valve covers (aka “tin”).

🧪 Are the Engines Tested Before Shipping? 

Yes — every remanufactured engine (and other product lines) goes through a SIM-test (Simulation test) process to verify oil pressure, compression, leak integrity, and overall performance before it leaves our facility.  

This ensures you receive a unit ready for installation — reducing the risk of pre-existing problems. 

🔒 What Kind of Warranty Comes With a Gearhead Engine? 

Gearhead Engines offers a robust 4-Year, Unlimited Mile parts-and-labor warranty on all remanufactured engines (and other components). Many engines come with a three-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.  

For additional protection, “No-Fault” warranty upgrades are available — especially if installation is done at a licensed facility.  

Even if you choose DIY installation, you’re covered for manufacturing defects — though labor or incidental installation costs are typically not reimbursed.  

📦 What About Shipping, Core Deposits & Returns? 

When you order from Gearhead Engines, shipping is transparent. Most of our products include free shipping. 

After you receive your remanufactured unit and install it, Gearhead provides free pickup of your old core. Once the returned core is received and verified (matching the replaced unit), your core deposit is refunded.  

🛠️ Do You Provide Installation, or Recommend Installers? 

No — Gearhead does not install engines or transmissions. We sell and ship the components; installation is up to you or a licensed repair facility you choose.  

That said, we are happy to help you identify the correct engine/transmission for your vehicle to minimize compatibility risks. Our sales reps are available to answer questions about specifications, VIN matching, and required components.  

🔄 What If I’m Unsure If the Engine Fits My Vehicle (Year/Model/Engine Code)? 

Before placing an order, gather your vehicle’s make, model, year, engine code or VIN, and any trim-specific details (e.g., factory turbo, performance package). 

Provide that information to our sales team — they will confirm compatibility and ensure you receive the correct remanufactured unit.
