What to do if your engine dies while driving?

If your engine stops while you’re on the road, here’s what to do:
  • Activate your hazard lights
  • Stay composed
  • Safely pull over to the side
  • Shift into neutral or park
  • Attempt to restart the engine
  • If it doesn’t start, reach out to a towing service
  • Have a mechanic inspect your vehicle
Keep in mind that losing engine power may affect your steering and brakes, so you’ll need to exert more effort to control and stop the car. You can steer firmly and use the car’s momentum to move off the road.
Added tip: If you notice metal shavings in the oil, it indicates that the engine may need replacing, as these shavings can cause further damage.
If your engine fails, it might be a good idea to consider replacing it entirely.
